The History of "The Looby Cup"
|
When Dumont High School first became involved in Forensics (before the NJDFL), a
man named James Looby (known to his friends as Looby) was approached to be a
judge. Having participated in Forensics when he was a high school student, it was only
natural for him to say yes. (Looby never heard of the word ‘no’) With each passing
year, Looby became more and more involved.
As the NJDFL became a reality he wanted there to be some sort of reward at the end of
the season for the winning school to be able to take home after the championship. As is
his way, Looby went out on his own and purchased a trophy and a plaque large enough
to be engraved with the winners names for the next few years and donated it to the
NJDFL. Thus, THE LOOBY CUP was born.
Each year the past winner brings The Looby Cup to the Championship Tournament so
that the newest winner will be able to bring the cup back to their school.
